Seminar: Compound extreme events in a changing climate

Part of the Cycle of seminars: Understanding and managing climate risk

Compound extreme events in a changing climate

Emanuele Bevacqua Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research UFZ, Leipzig

High-impact climate events often emerge from the compounding influence of multiple climate drivers or hazards. The presentation will cover soil-moisture droughts from hot-dry conditions, fire-conducive weather patterns, global droughts affecting food security, and weather challenges to renewable energy systems. The speaker will address observed trends, the role of human-induced climate change, record-breaking events, and assessment uncertainties with implications for future scenarios.
