Research centre on climate change, impacts and risk management at IUSS Pavia

Driven by curiosity and societal need, CARISMA brings together an interdisciplinary team of researchers - spanning climate modelling, hydrology, remote sensing, atmospheric physics, environmental engineering, and economics - to advance integrated research on climate change and sustainable development.

Main objectives

  • Understand: modelling Earth-system and socio-economic processes to characterise climate variability, change, and its drivers.
  • Assess: quantifying the impacts of extreme weather events and long-term climate change on the environment, infrastructure, and human systems.
  • Inform: translating risk assessments into actionable knowledge for adaptation, policy, and sustainable development.
