Biography

Marco is Associate Professor in Physics of the Earth System at the IUSS Pavia since 2022, where he is teaching the Climate Dynamics and Change to undergraduate and PhD students, and he is Head of the Climate change impAct studies for RISk MAnagement (CARISMA) research centre. His research focuses on atmosphere dynamics and past, present, and future climate variability and change, with special interest in West African monsoon dynamics and teleconnections, the climate variability of the Euro-Atlantic region, and the transport of aerosols from the African continent.

In addition to his work on atmospheric dynamics, he studies the impact of climate variability and change on human activities, with particular attention to the agriculture and energy sectors.

He holds a master’s degree in physics from La Sapienza University in Rome (2003) and a PhD in physics from the University of L’Aquila (2011). In the past, he worked as a researcher at the CNR Institute of Biometeorology (IBIMET) in Rome, the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology of Complutense University in Madrid, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission in Ispra, the Institut Pierre Simon Laplace (IPSL) in Paris.
